Old Naija National Anthem

"Nigeria we hail thee,
Our own dear native land,
Though tribe and tongue may differ,
In brotherhood we stand,
Nigerians all are proud to serve
... Our sovereign Motherland.
Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign,
In peace or battle honored,
And this we count as gain,
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain.
O God of all creation,
Grant this our one request,
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed,
And so with peace and plenty
Nigeria may be blessed."....(1960-78)

This is our old National Anthem sung between 1960 and 1978, I believe. If you take a critical look at the lyrics, you will know that we, as a country, have really missed it.
Though, we still hail Naija, let’s ponder on some issues:
Ø Do we still stand in brotherhood?
Ø Are we proud to serve Naija?
Ø Does truth and justice reign?
Ø Do we have an unstained banner to hand over to children?
Ø Is there no oppression in Naija?
Think about these things even as each and everyone of us contribute our quota to Naija, Our sovereign Motherland.

Neil Armstrong and Apollo

Neil Armstrong died in the United States and the Americans, led by Obama, felt sad and happy for him and the country.
For your information, this guy was the first man to land on the moon in the 60s. So, the Americans were happy that he achieved a landmark for them but sad that he died.
Why am i writing this. You may not know what conjunctivitis is but you will readily understand when I say 'Apollo'. It is an 'illness' of the eyes.
When you have Apollo, your eyes would be red, itchy  and watery. When you have it, you dare not come out when it is sunny and if you must be out, you must wear a dark sunshade. Once you wear it, everyone knows you have Apollo.
Then, and some people still believe it (come and ask my mum), it is believed that Apollo came to be because Armstrong went to the moon.
They said he saw strange things there which caused his eyes to itch. Eventually, he came back to our planet with the anomaly.
So, you see why it is different stroke for different folks.

killer messages: Rumour or not

Some weeks back, a dumb message was sent to that Pastor Adeboye of Redeemed Christian Church of God warned that nobody should wear anything of the colour RED.
Chei! Come and see wahala (trouble). It was forwarded to me with a warning that if I don't heed it, something bad will happen to me. My facebook and twitter timeline was bombarded with it and the comments on it was the dumbest.
however, there were some smart fellows (like my colleague Lekan Osiade) who changed his profile pix for that day to celebrate red.am less concerned about it because red has never been my colour. I don't recall ever using my money to buy or being given any red clothing item. I just don't fancy it.
Fortunately, Baba Adeboye came out to debunk the rumour.
Now, THIS!
Someone posted/sent this:
Pls do not pick call from dis no 08061197911. it kill 4 people at ilorin 2 at EGBE ad also kill MR ADEDIRAN at OMU-ARAN dis morn pls send to ur peopel. pls don't i posted it the way i recieve it,,,,, pls lets share comments!!!

Do you believe it? Me, I don't.
It has happened before when they said if you receive the call, you will start vomiting blood and die off like chicken.
Naija! Is it the level of poverty that is causing this? My own opinion, though.

419: NNPC Sanarium and Engr. Wale Balogun

I made a promise last week that I will tell you about some 419 guys that want to scam me but I was smarter than all of them.
I received a call on 08086899324 from a man who introduced himself as Engr. Wale Balogun. He said he was in the same office with me when I was in Newstar but he was in the engineering department. He said he enjoyed reading my column then.
The guy praised my writing seriously and I was flattered. He said he left the company for a course in Germany and came back to pick a job in NNPC. I said I was happy for him.
He now asked where I now worked but I was evasive. "Well," he said, "there is a business proposal that you can also benefit in."
My antenna went up. I cut the line and called a former colleague at Newstar who said there is nothing like engineering dept and no Wale Balogun ever worked there. It is a small place!
He called me back and I apologized that it was network problem. He said there is one Alhaji Usman Bello who supplies ‘Samarium petroleum care’ but he doesn’t know where to get the product or at what price. He (Engr) usually get the product from one David Ayodele (07033408040) at Ilasamaja.
Engr insisted that I called David that night to confirm that he has enough products (Alhaji needs 50 gallons) on ground. I buy from David at N250,000/gallon and sell to Alhaji at N300,000/gallon. Then we split the profit.
I told him I was interested but had no call credit on my phone to call that night. Engr. Said I should call the following morning as Alhaji would be coming from Abuja to get the product. I still insisted that I had no call credit.
Eventually, the mumu David called me and said I had to buy a gallon that would be shown to Alhaji as sample. I told him I had no N250,000 and we started haggling. At the end of the day, he agreed to collect N50,000 from me.
All these while, they were the one calling me because I insisted I had no call credit but very interested in the business. I told him I have a car that I want to sell for N750,000 and the guy went crazy.
“You have to be fast about it o. If you can even pay more, the better for you,” he said. I pleaded with him that I will reach him.
Since then, the Engr. has been calling me but I am ignoring them.
I don't have any call to sell o and I have wasted their call credits. I want money but not desperately. You can call them, if you like.
