STR8 UP HIP-HOP CELEBRATES FIRST DECADE OF HIP-HOP

Shortly after the conclusion of Ladies First April edition of, Str8 Up Hip-hop, many wondered what the theme of the next edition will be. Some ardent followers of the niche urban monthly event went as far as consistently placing calls to the organizers seeking to get more information about the May edition.
After much deliberation, the producers, Now Muzik Encore in conjunction with Club Rumors have finally decided to host the hip-hop community to a special party celebrating the first decade of Hip-hop.
Themed ‘79-89 the definitive first decade of Hip-hop Party’, the party is set to hold on the 25 the prestigious Club Rumors located at 15A Oduduwa way, G.R.A, Ikeja.
The strictly by invitation party will be the first of its kind in the Nigerian Hip-hop scene and will witness the presence of a good number of Nigerian Hip-hop pioneers, ex Emcees and ex DJs. The experience will surely be totally unforgettable and will afford younger artistes the opportunity to network with the older artistes.

Str8 Up Hip Hop to celebrate hip hop first ladies

Every edition of Str8 up Hip hop has definitive message for the hip hop culture thus the April edition of the Now Muzik En.Core production, is aimed at celebrating the brightness and beauty hip hop fly sisters have brought to the game.
Themed Ladies First, it will recognise the contribution of the rappatainer, Weird MC who was the first Nigerian artiste to release a video-single; First Lady of Nigerian hip hop, Sasha P who is also the first ever Nigerian female artist to perform at the
20th anniversary of the World Music Awards in October 2008 and the late DJ Lokshai, the first Nigerian female DJ.
The delectable spoken word artiste and entrepreneur, Toni Payne, will host the ladies and other hip hop enthusiasts at the venue, The Place, Isaac John Street, GRA, Ikeja on Thursday April 25, 2013.
The admission ticket of N5000 will enable guests enjoy performances from Dolapo, Splash, Butafly and DJ Lambo even as red carpet will start at 5pm.
The night will also feature breath-taking B-boy and emcee battle sessions as well as graffiti art.
The April edition is proudly supported by Dansa with Kally and Mowa water brands.

LYRICISM 101 :DJ JIMMY JATT AND MODENINE 'WOWED' AT STR8 UP HIP-HOP B.I.G TRIBUTE

The March edition of Str8 Up, Hip-hop was indeed a major gathering of Hip-hop heads and intellectuals who sought to experience firsthand the place of lyrics in that music genre and they were not disappointed.

The niche urban monthly event, which held last Thursday at Koga Studios, Oregun, Ikeja, witnessed the veteran DJ, Cool DJ Jimmy Jatt and Modenine at their best as they treated the crowd to the lyrics in hip hop.

Themed Lyricism 101, the edition was aimed at appreciating the importance of lyrics in Hip-hop and remembering the works and immense contributions of Christopher Wallace also known as Notorious B.I.G.

Thus, DJ Jatt slammed classics of the late rapper which brought back cherished memories. Many were seen bopping their heads to the beat, moving on their seats and rapping along.

The event was hosted by brilliant orator and Hip-hop enthusiast, Andre Blaze who fed the hip-hop hungry crowd to an amazing Notorious B.I.G history and gradually took them into the world of lyricism.

In the same vein, there was a previewed session from Modenine’s latest album, Alphabetical Order. The multi award winning rapper’s performance was no doubt the best of the night, almost all in attendance got on their feet and rapped along with the veteran as he performed some of his timeless hits and his new single, ‘Let It Go’.

The crowd was also treated to almost all the Hip-hop elements which includes mesmerizing B-boy stunts, captivating spoken word by Dolapo, live graffiti by Uprizn, energetic performances by Butafly and Five Mics and superb DJ’ing by DJ OZ.

Now Muzik En.Core is planning yet another Str8 Up, Hip-hop edition for April. The theme will be announced soon.

DJ HUMILTY, ILL BLISS, BLAISE, PHYNO TO REP STR8 UP, HIP-HOP LOVE JONES EDITION

The definitive purpose-built vehicle for the true blue Hip-hop head; Str8 Up, Hip-hop is back with the February edition tagged ‘Love Jones’.

Although the January re-launch ‘State Of the Union Forum’ edition was devoid of the regular features of a typical Str8 Up, Hip-hop event, this month’s ‘Love Jones’ edition will bring all the exciting features back and better.

The event is scheduled to hold at 5pm prompt on Saturday, 23rd Feb, 2012 at Koga Studios, Oregun Road, Ikeja and will feature the whole nine: magnificent graffiti art display, breath-taking Bboy and emcee battle sessions, moving spoken word performances by Efe Paul Azino and Toni Payne with superb DJs; Humility and OZ holding it down on the wheels of steel. There will also be special guest performances by the ruthless vet, Ill Bliss AKA Dat Ibo Boy and fast rising rapper, Phyno.

PANDA RECORDS AFRICA UNVEILS NEW ARTISTES, GINGERBREAD AND PROLISHEY IN SPANKING NEW MIXTAPE SINGLE 'GBAGBE OSHI' FEATURING BUTAFLY

Panda Records Africa (P.R.A) unveils upcoming rapper Emmanuel Adeyemi aka Gingerbread and prolific artiste/producer , Longe Ulishemi Prescious aka Prolishey on a hot new Hip-hop track titled – ‘Gbagbe Oshi’.

The track which was produced by Prolishey, features upcoming female rapper Butafly (TBB), and is the first single off the forthcoming "Sick Lines Big Money" Mixtape (SLBM) scheduled to drop in few months from now.According to Gingerbread, the track is a motivational song targeted at stimulating the listener's desire to achieve more through hard work, while for Prolishey, Gbagbe Oshi is a spanking Hip-hop track that is sure to win the hearts of real Hip-hop lovers.

 Love is in the air this February and for the Hip-hop aficionado, all the other stuff going down would at best, be like an Olympic silver medal for Usain Bolt – not quite good enough! But not to worry, the definitive purpose-built vehicle for the true blue Hip-hop head provides succor in the mould of Str8 Up, Hip-hop: The Love Jones Edition.

The Love Jones edition is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 23^rd Feb, 2013 at Koga Studios, Oregun Road, Ikeja and will feature the whole nine: magnificent graffiti art display, breath-taking B-boy and emcee battle sessions, moving spoken word performances by Efe Paul Azino and Toni Payne with superb DJs Humility and OZ on the wheels. Str8 Up, Hip-Hop to host State of the Union Forum

Str8 Up, Hip-Hop a niche urban monthly networking event for hip hop heads and intellectuals is back with a new edition tagged ‘State of the Union Forum: A critical Breakdown of Issues Arising from Chinua Achebe’s There Was a Country’.
The forum is scheduled to hold on January 23rd, 2013 at Pop on Saka Tinubu Street from 7 PM and boasts of industry big wigs such as Obi Asika, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Kwame and MI as panelists. Other panelists are Elajoe and femcee Blaise. Andre Blaze will hold down the Mic as host.
Str8 Up, Hip-Hop is an event property of Now Muzik En.Core (an event affiliate of Now Muzik) in partnership with Beat 99.9 FM and Pop with Support from thenetng.com and Mrshustle.com.
According to Efe Omorogbe of Now Muzik, ” Attendees of the event are guaranteed an exciting and insightful time. He continues: The Hip-hop community cannot afford to stand aloof. The first edition, Grand Hustle, was a celebration of the iconic Hip-hop entrepreneur Ayo Animashaun for his contribution to the growth of the Hip-hop movement  in Nigeria. There was a second edition- Love Lockdown: The Valentine edition and a third one tagged Vote or Vote: Election edition which was designed to support a campaign for youths to get involved, get registered,  go out and vote for the right candidate during the election. The fourth edition was Know-the-ledge – a Hip-hop revue for the promotion and celebration of conventional and street knowledge.
