1 GAME to distribute free books, pens in five states, FCT

The 1 GAME Campaign announced on Tuesday that it will commence free distribution of exercise books and pens to primary school children in Borno, Kano, Lagos, Rivers and Yobe States as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) beginning from Thursday, November 28, 2013.

In a statement released by the Press Affairs coordinator, Jude Ochang, the founder of 1 GAME Campaign, Philip Obaji said the move is aimed at encouraging enrolment of vulnerable children into school and making learning easier for children from disadvantaged homes who are already in school.

“We’ve received thousands of exercise books and pens from individuals and organizations who have decided to be part of our 1 Book, 1 Pen Campaign. We’ll begin to distribute these materials to those in need as from Thursday.

“Our focus will be on schools in remote areas with children from disadvantaged homes. The main aim is to encourage enrolment into primary school and ease learning for children from difficult backgrounds,” he said.

Obaji further stated that distribution of books and pens to primary schools in the five selected states and the FCT will last throughout the remainder of the year, after which focus will shift to other areas.

The 1 GAME Campaign launched the 1 Book, 1 Pen initiative in September 2013 with an aim of providing exercise books and pens for every child from disadvantaged background in school.
