"Nigeria we hail thee,
Our own dear native land,
Though tribe and tongue may differ,
In brotherhood we stand,
Nigerians all are proud to serve
... Our sovereign Motherland.
Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign,
In peace or battle honored,
And this we count as gain,
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain.
O God of all creation,
Grant this our one request,
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed,
And so with peace and plenty
Nigeria may be blessed."....(1960-78)

This is our old National Anthem sung between
1960 and 1978, I believe. If you take a critical look at the lyrics, you will know
that we, as a country, have really missed it.
Though, we still hail Naija, let’s ponder on
some issues:
Ø
Do we still stand in
brotherhood?
Ø
Are we proud to serve Naija?
Ø
Does truth and justice
reign?
Ø
Do we have an unstained
banner to hand over to children?
Ø
Is there no oppression in
Naija?
Think about these things even as each and
everyone of us contribute our quota to Naija, Our sovereign Motherland.
