AbdulHakeem scares lawmakers with Quran

This story was published in 2010

Aside being the special adviser to the Governor on political and religious matters, Hon. Abdullateef AbdulHakeem is also an Islamic cleric who delivers lectures and sermons with reality. As a chief imam at the House of Assembly mosque, he does not tolerate nonsense.
Probably this would explain why he caused a stir at the House of Assembly some days back when he brought two Quarans to the chamber during a plenary session.
Some top government functionaries such as the Commissioners for Waterfront Infrastructures, Establishment and Finance as well as the S.A Rural Development, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Director of Medicals had been invited to defend their request in the 2010 Supplementary Budget.
Surprisingly, Lateef, who was never invited, came shortly before the sitting started and openly displayed his Qurans. Each time any of the commissioners or officials tries to defend his request, Lateef would display his Quran and pay serious attention. After the presentation, Lateef would go out, only to come back with whoever is coming in next. This prompted the Speaker of the House, Adeyemi Ikuforiji to ask the S.A if he actually came to give spiritual protection to the public officers.
Even after the completion of the business of the day, Adeyemi thanked Lateef for coming, asking him, ‘hope you can now go with your Quran.’
