NEW MUSIC - SPLOOFIC BY BUTAFLY
Emerging strongly in the Nigerian music scene is an amazing Hip-hop artiste and song writer, Butafly, who is gradually gaining recognition among her counterparts. The outstanding rapper who recently featured alongside Weird MC and Sasha at the just concluded April edition of Str8 Up Hip-hop tagged ‘Ladies First’, is said to be one of the most lyrically gifted female acts to grace the Nigerian entertainment industry in a long while. Little wonder why her last released song ‘Started From The Bottom’ (Drake’s cover) keeps receiving great reviews and commendations since its premiere online till date. Butafly is currently rounding up recording one of the most anticipated material from a female artist, Butafly Rap Trap Mixtape 1 (BRT1) whose release date was previously postponed, giving her the space and time to try new ideas and stretch her imagination.
‘Sploofic’ is the second single off the #BRT1 Mixtape and was produced by Panda record’s producer/artiste, Prolishey. Expect a couple of internet videos from the energetic performer in the weeks to follow before the release of BRT1 Mixtape.
Where is the Sunborn Yacht Hotel?
Yes, it has ‘disappeared’, after more than four years of occupying Lagos waters in Marina and no one knows the whereabouts.
I could remember the former commissioner for tourism, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, defended the mooring of the N4.5bn luxury yacht with 102 elegantly furnished suites in Lagos Marina. He came up with excuses of repairs and some other ones I can’t recollect now for the ship ‘wasting’ away.
It has disappeared and Lagos State Government is washing its hands off it.
Commissioner for tourism, Oladisun Holloway, allegedly said, “As citizens of the state can’t find it, so is the state government also. The government can’t say precisely where the yacht is berthed at present.
“The state government doesn’t have any commitment in the yacht. And I don’t know why the residents of the state should be interested in whereabouts of the Sunborn yacht”.
Does this means that Afikuyomi worked alone on this? Who actually own that yacht? I rest my case.

World Malaria Day: Lagos promises to sustain malaria control activities
As we mark World Malaria Day, Lagos State Government has
promised to continue to sustain and improve upon all activities geared towards
malaria control.
This was stated in a press release signed by the state
health ministry’s PRO, Jide Lawal. The release listed some of the activities embarked
on by the state as the diagnosis of malaria cases and treatment with effective
medicines, distribution of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) to achieve full
coverage of populations at risk of malaria, and the Indoor Residual Spraying
(IRS) exercise.
The ministry stated that Lagos State is currently the only
state implementing the integrated vector management project which consists of three
components; Long Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLINs), Indoor Residual spraying
(IRS) and Larviciding.
Larviciding operation primarily attacks the mosquito larva
and its ability to breed and has been implemented in Agboyi Ketu and Ikosi
Isheri in Kosofe local government area.
Five rounds of larviciding spraying were carried out on over 544
hectares of land and 934,614 estimated numbers of people have been protected.
It would be recalled that in 2011, the state government
distributed 4.2 million LLINs with a target of two nets per household in mind
through a mass campaign exercise.
The state has continued to implement the Indoor Residual
Spraying (IRS) exercise in the last three years with the six local government
areas of Ojo, Ikorodu, Badagry, Amuwo-Odofin, Kosofe and Ibeju-Lekki and their
adjoining local council development areas benefiting from the intervention.
No fewer than 334,769 rooms have been sprayed in these local
governments areas with an estimated population of 3,570,113 being protected.
“In collaboration with our partners, microscopes and Rapid
Diagnostic Test (RDT) kits have been pushed into the system while Artemisinin
Combination Therapy (ACTs) anti-malarias are provided free for treatment in all
our facilities”, the release stated.
In line with this year’s world malaria theme: ‘invest in the
future: defeat malaria’ and the slogan ‘Time is now’, a series of activities
which include LLINs hanging-and-utilization campaign has been lined up to
emphasize the role of all stakeholders.

Don’t marry him, if he is any of the following:
The "help me
until I'm ready" guy. He is insecure and only talks about his own
problems (never yours) but he wants a lady by his side because it makes him
feel worthy. He will never be ready. So, forget him.
The "bear with me" guy. He finds nice, logical excuses that seem acceptable. You know, he can't take action now because he's busy with his career, or his weight loss, or his parents' needs. You name it, and the statement is "Bear with me."
The "dare to
discuss marriage" guy. He dares to talk about marriage and future
plans with you, knowing it's what you want to hear. But that's all he'll do; no
further action is ever taken.
The "be my guest
and discuss marriage" guy. This guy lets you do all the talking about
marriage you like. He knows you dream about it; he listens to you discuss it in
great detail. Ask him about dreams, he says, "Whatever you want,
honey." The "bear with me" guy. He finds nice, logical excuses that seem acceptable. You know, he can't take action now because he's busy with his career, or his weight loss, or his parents' needs. You name it, and the statement is "Bear with me."
The "let's have
fun first" guy. He sticks around for the thrill of the game. When the
fun is out, he's onto a new adventure and a new thrill. He's not here for
future plans or kids or family. He wants and talks about fun and about sex.

Educational shame: Nine best pupils cannot write their names in Akwa Ibom.
When in 2011 Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State directed all heads of schools in the state to select the best pupils from First School Leaving Certificate examinations, one in each of the 31 local government areas of the state, to a designated school to be re-examined, people were waiting for the best to emerge.
Unfortunately, the reverse was the case. The State Commissioner for Education, Mrs.
Eunice Thomas, revealed that nine of the selected pupils could not even write
their own names.
Speaking through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of
Education, Mr. Chrisantus Asuka, she said “We conducted a pre-test and say
let’s introduce subjective questions, and not objective questions that one
person will stand in the exam hall and just call out A or B to the candidates
and they all will shade or tick the correct answer.“At the end you realise that the child that scores 100 per cent cannot, if tested properly score 5 per cent.”
Fashola, pls open up this part of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
I think the Lagos State Government should pull down the gate erected by Bi Courtney and allow the effective and efficient use of that road.
In additional, they fenced off a portion of the road at the Lagos end of the toll gate thus creating a bit of bottleneck while they were still contemplating on which equipment to import for their job.
Unfortunately, the Federal
Government kicked them off the contract last year. They moved their equipment
from the area but the gate is still there and that portion of the road is still
not being used.

LYRICISM 101 :DJ JIMMY JATT AND MODENINE 'WOWED' AT STR8 UP HIP-HOP B.I.G TRIBUTE
The March edition of Str8 Up, Hip-hop was indeed a major gathering of Hip-hop heads and intellectuals who sought to experience firsthand the place of lyrics in that music genre and they were not disappointed.
The niche urban monthly event, which held last Thursday at Koga Studios, Oregun, Ikeja, witnessed the veteran DJ, Cool DJ Jimmy Jatt and Modenine at their best as they treated the crowd to the lyrics in hip hop.
Themed Lyricism 101, the edition was aimed at appreciating the importance of lyrics in Hip-hop and remembering the works and immense contributions of Christopher Wallace also known as Notorious B.I.G.
Thus, DJ Jatt slammed classics of the late rapper which brought back cherished memories. Many were seen bopping their heads to the beat, moving on their seats and rapping along.
The event was hosted by brilliant orator and Hip-hop enthusiast, Andre Blaze who fed the hip-hop hungry crowd to an amazing Notorious B.I.G history and gradually took them into the world of lyricism.
In the same vein, there was a previewed session from Modenine’s latest album, Alphabetical Order. The multi award winning rapper’s performance was no doubt the best of the night, almost all in attendance got on their feet and rapped along with the veteran as he performed some of his timeless hits and his new single, ‘Let It Go’.
The crowd was also treated to almost all the Hip-hop elements which includes mesmerizing B-boy stunts, captivating spoken word by Dolapo, live graffiti by Uprizn, energetic performances by Butafly and Five Mics and superb DJ’ing by DJ OZ.
Now Muzik En.Core is planning yet another Str8 Up, Hip-hop edition for April. The theme will be announced soon.

Serious crisis in Kings College, Lagos
Concerned parents of
the respected Kings College, Lagos have sent a petition to the Chairman, Senate
Committee on Education as regards the attitude of the principal.
Titled SERIOUS
CRISIS IN KING’S COLLEGE LAGOS, they
said the ugly incidents started in November 2011. As serious as it is, some of
the issues raised in the petition is already a subject matter of litigation
before the Lagos High Court in suit Nos. ID/142/2012.
However, the principal
refused to appear before the court rather he sends his teachers to represent
him claiming that at his level, he cannot be seen in the courts thereby giving
the impression that he is above sanctions.
The issues raised
were:
DISTRUPTION OF PTA
MEETING/EXECUTIVE
The principal,
Otunba Oladele Olapeju, aborted the P.T.A. election which was schedule to hold
on the 27th Nov. 2011 and appointed his own candidate, Mr. Emmanuel Oriakhi, to
run the affairs of the P.T.A on an interim basis, not minding the fact that the
P.T.A. constitution has no provision for interim administration.
The principal on his own without recourse to the general house changed some portions of the P.T.A. constitution and claimed that it was on the instruction of the Minister of Education.
In March 2012, election was conducted to elect new executives to take over from the illegal interim administration but the principal usurped the mandate given by the parents in the case of the Financial Secretary with the reason and excuse that there was a letter again from the Minister of Education stating that the post of Financial Secretary must be held by the school staff.
To that effect, he
appointed the School Store Keeper as PTA Financial Secretary. This he did to
enable him take over the control of the finance of the P.T.A.
The imposed PTA Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Oriakhi with the connivance of the Principal single-handedly brought some members of the interim committee into the executive as ex-officio and as at this report they are the ones that coordinates PTA key projects, for instance, School Bus Shuttle Services, Laundry etc. in order to continue to perpetuate their fraudulent and illegal acts.
CONSTRUCTION OF THE P.T.A HOSTEL SCAM
The school management through the principal wrote a letter to PTA, requesting for assistance to build a 5 storey Hostel block to accommodate the teaming population of the student. This request was accepted by the parents in PTA general meeting. A building levy of N15,000 was agreed, just for the Principal and his partner the PTA Chairman to impose N40,000 on parents of the new intakes.
At the commencement of the Hostel project, the Chairman and the Principal with impunity connived to impose two unqualified main contractors to handle the project, shrouded in secrecy, without the knowledge of other members of the executives, without going through the due process of tendering and bidding which is expected for such Capital project, they did this to protect their fraudulent interest.
ADMISSION SCAM
The principal sometime before September admission in 2012, made an open promise to parents in PTA General meeting that he will assist parents whose children failed to secure admission into JSS1 and SS1 on merit to secure admission. The PTA Chairman acting as a front for the principal, informed parents to either bring 50 bags of cement or the cash equivalent of N100,000 as a support for the Hostel building project before the admission will be given.
About 50 parents paid the sum of N100,000 each and were issued fictitious receipts for cement as a cover up. What was very disheartening in this act, was the fact that children with higher scores whose parents could not afford to pay N100,000 were denied and the fund raised diverted, as the Principal insisted and collected the money from PTA personally before signing the admission letters.
UNHEALTHY BOARDING HOUSE FACILITY
Some of the SS1 – SS3 students at the main camp have been sleeping on the corridors of the hostels since the beginning of this session, because of the greed of the principal, who gave admission to more students over the existing capacity and facility available in the school. This act has over-stretched the existing structures and facilities thereby affecting the welfare of our children that paid for boarding accommodation.
COMMERCIALISING THE SCHOOL PREMISES
The Annex Campus of Victoria Island had been turned into car park for banks and their customers such as GT Bank at Adeyemo Alakija which has no car park due to the high rise and no space building that it has. The principal leased out the school premises to them for a high amount of money thereby endangering the lives of our children. Not minding the spate of insecurity in our society today.
Shops and business centers were constructed everywhere making the school atmosphere un-conducive for learning. But for the intervention of Lagos State Environmental Agencies that demolished some of the shops that were recently constructed, our children would have been learning in a market square other than school premises.
During the weekends, the school premise in the Annex Campus is rented out at a fee for one social function or the other and parties are thrown without caution and recourse to the fact that this is a learning environment for children in JSS1-JSS3 whose ages range between 10-13 years (Moral bankruptcy).
IMPOSED RAFFLE TICKET LEVY
At the resumption of this second term, the principal Otunba Oladele Olapeju with the connivance of the P.T.A. Chairman Mr. Emman Oriakhi suddenly increased the PTA levies from N7,500:00 to N20,500:00, imposing an additional N10,000:00 tagged Raffle ticket levy, and N3,000:00 as laundry fee, without discussing it at the general meeting for approval.
MISMANAGEMENT OF PTA FUND
The PTA Chairman and his cronies dispenses PTA money as their personal money, himself and the principal, through the imposed Secretary Mrs. Umeano a teacher, who co-sign the PTA cheques with the Chairman. They decide on what areas to utilize the funds and allocate contracts to their cronies without the knowledge of other members of the executives and approval of the general house. They run the PTA without a budget, no checks and balances. It has become so bad, that the Chairman operates the P.T.A. Secretariat from his personal office at Alaka, along Funso Williams Avenue Surelere, where he keeps contract files away from other members of the executives.
The principal and the chairman uses different fictitious contractor names to siphon the P.T.A. money without the approval of the general house and do not render an account to the general house. Among many others are the Cleaning contractor imposed on the PTA, since Nov. 27th 2011, which the PTA pays the sum of N500,000;00 monthly for service not rendered, and the sum of N1.5million paid monthly for PTA staff that does not exist.
CONCLUSION
Rancor and crisis is brewing up now in the school at the moment because of the building levy that is incessantly imposed on parents, the unhealthy and not conducive learning environment that the school has subjected our children to and our children return home at the end of every term with water related sicknesses, in spite of all the good-wills offered to the school by parents and corporate bodies. Parents are asking questions and are of the opinion that the previous money paid for the building project is not being judiciously utilized. Raffle ticket shared to students for sales should not be made compulsory for them to pay before completion of the sale.
We hereby do appeal to the Chairman, Senate Committee on Education and to all concerned to come to the rescue of the Students, Parents, Teachers and the good image of this premier institution from collapse and to correct these administrative ills being perpetuated by the principal and his partner P.T.A Chairman to return Kings College to its former glory. We will appreciate your immediate intervention to correct these wrongs in order to give us the joy of seeing the king’s college of our dream.
Thank you as we look forward for your urgent intervention into this matter.
Yours Sincerely,
Concerned Parents.
