NEW MUSIC - SPLOOFIC BY BUTAFLY
Emerging strongly in the Nigerian music scene is an amazing Hip-hop artiste and song writer, Butafly, who is gradually gaining recognition among her counterparts. The outstanding rapper who recently featured alongside Weird MC and Sasha at the just concluded April edition of Str8 Up Hip-hop tagged ‘Ladies First’, is said to be one of the most lyrically gifted female acts to grace the Nigerian entertainment industry in a long while. Little wonder why her last released song ‘Started From The Bottom’ (Drake’s cover) keeps receiving great reviews and commendations since its premiere online till date. Butafly is currently rounding up recording one of the most anticipated material from a female artist, Butafly Rap Trap Mixtape 1 (BRT1) whose release date was previously postponed, giving her the space and time to try new ideas and stretch her imagination.
‘Sploofic’ is the second single off the #BRT1 Mixtape and was produced by Panda record’s producer/artiste, Prolishey. Expect a couple of internet videos from the energetic performer in the weeks to follow before the release of BRT1 Mixtape.
Where is the Sunborn Yacht Hotel?
Yes, it has ‘disappeared’, after more than four years of occupying Lagos waters in Marina and no one knows the whereabouts.
I could remember the former commissioner for tourism, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, defended the mooring of the N4.5bn luxury yacht with 102 elegantly furnished suites in Lagos Marina. He came up with excuses of repairs and some other ones I can’t recollect now for the ship ‘wasting’ away.
It has disappeared and Lagos State Government is washing its hands off it.
Commissioner for tourism, Oladisun Holloway, allegedly said, “As citizens of the state can’t find it, so is the state government also. The government can’t say precisely where the yacht is berthed at present.
“The state government doesn’t have any commitment in the yacht. And I don’t know why the residents of the state should be interested in whereabouts of the Sunborn yacht”.
Does this means that Afikuyomi worked alone on this? Who actually own that yacht? I rest my case.

World Malaria Day: Lagos promises to sustain malaria control activities
As we mark World Malaria Day, Lagos State Government has
promised to continue to sustain and improve upon all activities geared towards
malaria control.
This was stated in a press release signed by the state
health ministry’s PRO, Jide Lawal. The release listed some of the activities embarked
on by the state as the diagnosis of malaria cases and treatment with effective
medicines, distribution of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) to achieve full
coverage of populations at risk of malaria, and the Indoor Residual Spraying
(IRS) exercise.
The ministry stated that Lagos State is currently the only
state implementing the integrated vector management project which consists of three
components; Long Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLINs), Indoor Residual spraying
(IRS) and Larviciding.
Larviciding operation primarily attacks the mosquito larva
and its ability to breed and has been implemented in Agboyi Ketu and Ikosi
Isheri in Kosofe local government area.
Five rounds of larviciding spraying were carried out on over 544
hectares of land and 934,614 estimated numbers of people have been protected.
It would be recalled that in 2011, the state government
distributed 4.2 million LLINs with a target of two nets per household in mind
through a mass campaign exercise.
The state has continued to implement the Indoor Residual
Spraying (IRS) exercise in the last three years with the six local government
areas of Ojo, Ikorodu, Badagry, Amuwo-Odofin, Kosofe and Ibeju-Lekki and their
adjoining local council development areas benefiting from the intervention.
No fewer than 334,769 rooms have been sprayed in these local
governments areas with an estimated population of 3,570,113 being protected.
“In collaboration with our partners, microscopes and Rapid
Diagnostic Test (RDT) kits have been pushed into the system while Artemisinin
Combination Therapy (ACTs) anti-malarias are provided free for treatment in all
our facilities”, the release stated.
In line with this year’s world malaria theme: ‘invest in the
future: defeat malaria’ and the slogan ‘Time is now’, a series of activities
which include LLINs hanging-and-utilization campaign has been lined up to
emphasize the role of all stakeholders.

Don’t marry him, if he is any of the following:
The "help me
until I'm ready" guy. He is insecure and only talks about his own
problems (never yours) but he wants a lady by his side because it makes him
feel worthy. He will never be ready. So, forget him.
The "bear with me" guy. He finds nice, logical excuses that seem acceptable. You know, he can't take action now because he's busy with his career, or his weight loss, or his parents' needs. You name it, and the statement is "Bear with me."
The "dare to
discuss marriage" guy. He dares to talk about marriage and future
plans with you, knowing it's what you want to hear. But that's all he'll do; no
further action is ever taken.
The "be my guest
and discuss marriage" guy. This guy lets you do all the talking about
marriage you like. He knows you dream about it; he listens to you discuss it in
great detail. Ask him about dreams, he says, "Whatever you want,
honey." The "bear with me" guy. He finds nice, logical excuses that seem acceptable. You know, he can't take action now because he's busy with his career, or his weight loss, or his parents' needs. You name it, and the statement is "Bear with me."
The "let's have
fun first" guy. He sticks around for the thrill of the game. When the
fun is out, he's onto a new adventure and a new thrill. He's not here for
future plans or kids or family. He wants and talks about fun and about sex.

Educational shame: Nine best pupils cannot write their names in Akwa Ibom.
When in 2011 Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State directed all heads of schools in the state to select the best pupils from First School Leaving Certificate examinations, one in each of the 31 local government areas of the state, to a designated school to be re-examined, people were waiting for the best to emerge.
Unfortunately, the reverse was the case. The State Commissioner for Education, Mrs.
Eunice Thomas, revealed that nine of the selected pupils could not even write
their own names.
Speaking through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of
Education, Mr. Chrisantus Asuka, she said “We conducted a pre-test and say
let’s introduce subjective questions, and not objective questions that one
person will stand in the exam hall and just call out A or B to the candidates
and they all will shade or tick the correct answer.“At the end you realise that the child that scores 100 per cent cannot, if tested properly score 5 per cent.”
Fashola, pls open up this part of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
I think the Lagos State Government should pull down the gate erected by Bi Courtney and allow the effective and efficient use of that road.
In additional, they fenced off a portion of the road at the Lagos end of the toll gate thus creating a bit of bottleneck while they were still contemplating on which equipment to import for their job.
Unfortunately, the Federal
Government kicked them off the contract last year. They moved their equipment
from the area but the gate is still there and that portion of the road is still
not being used.

LYRICISM 101 :DJ JIMMY JATT AND MODENINE 'WOWED' AT STR8 UP HIP-HOP B.I.G TRIBUTE
The March edition of Str8 Up, Hip-hop was indeed a major gathering of Hip-hop heads and intellectuals who sought to experience firsthand the place of lyrics in that music genre and they were not disappointed.
The niche urban monthly event, which held last Thursday at Koga Studios, Oregun, Ikeja, witnessed the veteran DJ, Cool DJ Jimmy Jatt and Modenine at their best as they treated the crowd to the lyrics in hip hop.
Themed Lyricism 101, the edition was aimed at appreciating the importance of lyrics in Hip-hop and remembering the works and immense contributions of Christopher Wallace also known as Notorious B.I.G.
Thus, DJ Jatt slammed classics of the late rapper which brought back cherished memories. Many were seen bopping their heads to the beat, moving on their seats and rapping along.
The event was hosted by brilliant orator and Hip-hop enthusiast, Andre Blaze who fed the hip-hop hungry crowd to an amazing Notorious B.I.G history and gradually took them into the world of lyricism.
In the same vein, there was a previewed session from Modenine’s latest album, Alphabetical Order. The multi award winning rapper’s performance was no doubt the best of the night, almost all in attendance got on their feet and rapped along with the veteran as he performed some of his timeless hits and his new single, ‘Let It Go’.
The crowd was also treated to almost all the Hip-hop elements which includes mesmerizing B-boy stunts, captivating spoken word by Dolapo, live graffiti by Uprizn, energetic performances by Butafly and Five Mics and superb DJ’ing by DJ OZ.
Now Muzik En.Core is planning yet another Str8 Up, Hip-hop edition for April. The theme will be announced soon.
